Let’s talk safety and protection — something you hope you’ll never need… until you do.
If you caught my Ozarks adventure, you know I fractured my ankle and had to make a splint and wrap it using my first aid and trauma kit. That kit is now a permanent part of my rig.
I also carry pepper spray and two firearms — not to be controversial, but because I value being prepared and feeling safe at camp. Whether it’s wildlife or a late-night knock on the tent, I’d rather have the tools and not need them.

As I prep for my next overlanding trip, I’ve been reflecting on what gear came up short on past adventures. While exploring the Ozarks, one major issue stood out — communication.
